Case Studies

Land Trust, Service Charge Feasibility Study and the development of individual site business plans

Carney Green have undertaken numerous projects for the Land Trust. Recently, we have been supporting this organisation to make business cases for investment in a number of areas. This has included delivering an options appraisal to identify the most appropriate delivery method  to fulfil the Land Trust’s service charge functions.

This involved: defining the Land Trust’s service charge offer; a market assessment; the development of a list of options; the identification of a preferred approach; and the production of an action plan. In addition, we have also developed five year business plans for over 20 Land Trust sites. These business plans outline the objectives for each site,  progress already made, and future aspirations for each site. These will be used to inform funding application bids.

Fixers Sustainability Plan, Submission to the Big Lottery Fund

Carney Green worked with Fixers’ Chief Executive and Senior Management Team (SMT) to produce a sustainability business plan to support a successful £6m funding application to the Big Lottery Fund.  During a series of business planning sessions, Carney Green worked with SMT to  review the organisation’s revenue activity, revise cashflow forecasts and develop a comprehensive sustainability plan which set out how the organisation would achieve: zero dependency on lottery funding within 4 years; a sustainable shift from restricted funds to unrestricted funds; a balanced portfolio of revenue raising activities; and a phased cost reduction programme.

Having successfully secured the Big Lottery funding, Carney Green also facilitated planning sessions with the organisations’ Trustees and middle managers to operationalise the plan and help ensure the long-term future of the organisation.

Examples of other similar projects we are currently working on or previously undertaken include:

  • The development of an outline business case for acquisition and revitalisation of Blackpool Tower and Winter Gardens.
  • A study into the need and demand for community facilities in the London Borough of Bexley in order to inform a Big Lottery funding bid.
  • The delivery of a demand and market analysis of the defence and cyber security in Malvern Hills to identify the case for expansion of the Science Park.
  • The creation of a governance structure and associated business case for the delivery of an Economic Strategy for Berkshire.
